Trash Era

Trash CD Album

1989, Epic, 4651302

This European CD version of Trash features a jewel case and 8-page booklet containing track listings, lyrics and credits.

Trash CD Album

2014, Cherry Red Records, HNECD031

Released in January 2014, this European CD re-issue of Trash is similar to the offering by Cherry Red Records a few months earlier for Hey Stoopid. This album again comes in digipak format which unfolds to reveal both the CD and artwork from the Trash era.  There's also another excellent booklet (with more historical imagery) presented by journalist Malcolm Dome, which gives a good insight into the album.

There are 2 bonus tracks included.  Firstly, there's a radio edit of Only My Heart Talkin' which is merely a shorter version of that from the album and, therefore, of no major excitment.  The 2nd track, I Got a Line On You (a Spirit cover that featured on the motion picture Iron Eagle II), is a more worthy addition as it previously was only freely available on The Life And Crimes Of Alice Cooper Box Set. It's a pretty good song so it's good to see it included on the album that's chronologically closest to it.

As with the Hey Stoopid release, it's a shame that more exciting content (demos) couldn't be dug up but I understand why this may not be possible. It's still worth snapping up though as it's better than the original release.

Trash CD Album

2014, Cherry Red Records, HNECD031

This interesting 'state-of-the-art' Japanese 'Blu-Spec' CD release of Trash features the same track listings as the 2014 Cherry Red Records version (see above) but in a traditional jewel case and a far less interesting black and white booklet. An 'Obi Strip' is also provided (a common feature on Japanese music releases).

Blue-Spec CDs promise reduced distortion due to the use of a blue laser to create more precise pits (e.g. manufacured in similar way to Blu-Rays).  I can't personally hear much difference between this and a standard recording, however, someone using more expensive kit may be able to. And before you ask, no, the CD is not blue, it's the same as a normal disc.

The booklet is very dissapointing with 4 pages of Japanese on Alice's history followed by both english and Japanese lyrics.  There are no pictures at all other than that shown above on the back of the booklet.

A similar re-issue of Hey Stoopid was also released at the same time.

Trash 12" Vinyl Album

1990, Globus International, 21 0040-1 311

This rare Czechoslovakian vinyl version of Trash by Globus International comes in a simple card sleeve and features a 2-sided paper inlay featuring track listings, lyrics and credits.

Notably, this version features a stunning translucent turquoise disc which is quite unique when compared to other Alice Cooper records at the time of release.

Trash 12" Vinyl Album

1990, Globus International, 21 0040-1 311

This further rare Czechoslovakian vinyl version of Trash by Globus International is exactly same as the above version only this one features an even more stunning, not to mention unique, yellow splatter effect vinyl disc.

This was well ahead of its time, with elaborate coloured vinyl like this not becoming big in Alice Cooper circles for some 25 years-or-so later.

Trash 12" Vinyl Album

2013, Friday Music, FRM-45137

This USA 180 gram vinyl re-issue of Trash by Friday Music features an improved gatefold sleeve, which includes track listings, lyrics and credits on the inside. The vinyl disc is a nice translucent red.

Trash 12" Vinyl Album

2017, Music On Vinyl, MOVLP1862

This European 180 gram re-issue of Trash by Music On Vinyl is limited to 1,500 individually stamped copies (of which this is #0393), comes in a simple card sleeve and has a paper insert featuring track listings, lyrics and credits. The vinyl is a nice translucent red colour, making it very similar to the 2013 Friday Music re-issue (above).

It appears as though fans who purchased this edition received slightly different hype stickers on the front, with some in gold stating the production run figure of 1,500 and others in black (like mine) not. Apparently, the reason for this is that a further run of black vinyls was produced and that some of the hype stickers for those editions made it onto the limited.

Trash 12" Vinyl Album

2019, Music On Vinyl, MOVLP1862

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album, Music On Vinyl produced this further limited edition European 180 gram re-issue of Trash. This time limited to 2,500 individually stamped copies (of which this is #0222), it is almost exactly the same as the above release only that is features a different hype sticker on the front, a nice opaque silver and black marbled disc and slightly reconfigured artwork on the rear of the sleeve. The 2 versions can also be distinguished by their different barcodes.

Poison CD Single

1989, Epic, 6550612

This UK CD single comes in a simple card sleeve and features Poison and Trash (both from the Trash album), a brilliant live version of Ballad Of Dwight Fry (recorded at Cincinnati Gardens in 1987) plus I Got A Line On You (a Spirit cover that featured on the motion picture Iron Eagle II and was recorded again in 2015 as part of Alice's Hollywood Vampires project).

Poison CD Single

1989, Epic, 6551652

This novel UK CD release of Poison features flat-pack cardboard which, with enough skill and patience, can be transformed into a large poison bottle. The intricate design features a slot in the side with which the CD can be safely housed.

The CD features the same 4 tracks as the above standard CD single and the CD itself actually has the same code number (6550612).

These are quite hard to come across these days, especially in good / complete condition as they are fragile and easily damaged.

I have 2 copies as follows:

1. Constructed version in ok condition but is slightly mis-shapen at the top, and is also missing the pointed crown of the bottle top.  I've superglued it together to help maintain its structural integrity.

2. Flat-packed / sealed copy in fine condition (the packaging has broken open at the top though).

All-in-all, this is a pretty cool item but quite difficult to store when made!

Poison 3" Mini CD Single

1989, Epic, 6550611

This European 3" 'Mini CD' single features a gatefold sleeve and includes Poison and Trash (both from the Trash album). Oddly, Poison is titled 'Poison 1' on the back of the sleeve. This copy also features the original blister pack that these releases came in.

1989, Epic, 6550613

This further European 3" 'Mini CD' single is exactly the same as the above version, but instead of Trash, it includes excllent live versions of Ballad Of Dwight Fry and Cold Ethyl (from Cincinatti Gardens in 1987).

This is, to my knowledge, the only official release of Spark In The Dark as a live track on audio format (other than a rather ropey version that appears on the 'Legends' compilation CD).

House Of Fire 12" Vinyl Single

House Of Fire 12" Vinyl Single Test Pressing

1989, Epic, ALICE P4

House Of Fire is probably the Alice Cooper single with the most variants, with no fewer than 9 different vinyl versions in the UK alone (the first 8 of these are shown above).  The 9th and final version is the most striking though as it features a 12" picture disc featuring a snarling Alice, which was cut around the outline of his head to form a unique, jagged, design.

The mainstream version is featured below but I'm also pleased to own this uncut test pressing.  According to eil.com this would have been used to test image alignment and print quality before the final run was cut to the desired shape.  It is therefore likely that only a handful of these were produced.

Despite the size of the disc only an approximate 7" size area features playable music, so just 1 track is provided on each side.  The tracks provided are House Of Fire on Side A and This Maniac's In Love With You on Side B (both from the Trash album).

House Of Fire 12" Vinyl Single

1989, Epic, ALICE P4

This shaped UK 12" vinyl single is the mainstream version of the above test pressing and again includes House Of Fire on Side A and This Maniac's In Love With You on Side B (both from the Trash album).

House Of Fire 3" 'Snap-Pack' Mini CD Single

1989, Epic, ESDA 7013

Snap-Pack CD's were a Japanese only product and featured a long plastic core (featuring a 3" 'Mini CD') covered in a paper wrapper.  If desired, the plastic could be snapped in half to form a smaller case.  All very odd really and it's no suprise that the idea didn't catch on in other territories.

This Snap-Pack release features the studio versions of House Of Fire and Poison (both from the Trash album) and includes the well known cover photos from the Trash and Poison covers.  The only other Alice Cooper 'Snap-Pack' releases were Only My Heart Talkin' (below) and Hey Stoopid.

Trash Jigsaw Puzzle

2020, Rock Saws, RSAW059PZ

This Trash album cover jigsaw by Rock Saws comes in a nice sturdy box, features 500 pieces and measures 41 x 41cm when built. It is of excellent quality, with good-fitting pieces and a nice glossy finish. The only issue is that it's very tricky to build due to nature of the image (i.e. lots of grey).

A puzzle for the Welcome To My Nightmare album was also produced at the same time.
